Day 1: Arrival in Dana VillageIf you’re arriving from the Dead Sea and Madaba you’ll travel to Dana via the crusader castle at Kerak and the ancient King’s Highway. The Wadi Dana Trail leads through Dana Nature Reserve is Jordan’s largest nature reserve. The landscape is surprisingly varied, with steep, densely covered green mountain ridges and arid rocky desert. You'll be dropped off at your accommodation in Dana Village, a remote village perched on the edge of the gorge. Much of the original 15th Century character of teh village has remained intact. Tonight you’ll stay in the small, cosy village hotel. The rooms are basic but the hotel does boast prime views across the mountains ridges and there’s a nice rooftop terrace. In the evening take a short walk through the olive orchards up to a natural spring high above the village for some spectacular views across the gorge. |

Day 2: Wadi Dana Trail and arrival Wadi MusaThere’s a beautiful but strenuous trek planned for today, so you’ll need to be up early. After breakfast it’s time to lace up your boots, fill your water bottle and make your way to the Dana Visitor Centre. This is the starting point of one of the most interesting trails in the area; the Wadi Dana Trail. The trek, including plenty of breaks, takes about 6 hours. It’s a long walk, but a large part of the route leads downhill to the Feinan Lodge. You’ll need to be relatively fit and make sure you bring plenty of food and water as there are no places to stock up on snacks along the way.The trail leads through green shrub-covered hills, craggy mountains and then a small valley filled with oleanders. If you keep your eyes open you’ll spot the odd lizard basking in the sun and eagles soaring high above the mountains. Once you reach Feinan Lodge you can rest your weary feet and enjoy a cold drink on the terrace before heading back to Dana Village. This is the easy part: you’ll be picked up by 4WD and driven back to the village. It’s a 2 hour drive back to your hotel. From Dana you can travel on to Petra for our Petra Wadi Rum tour. You’ll arrive early evening at Wadi Musa, the gateway to Petra. |
|
At the end of the Wadi Dana Trail you could spend an extra night in Wadi Dana instead of continuing on to Petra that same day. That way you can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the roof terrace with your feet up and a cup of Bedouin tea. The next day you’ll travel via Shoubak Castle, followed by our Petra Wadi Rum tour. Though not as well-preserved as the crusader castle at Kerak, the isolated location and desolate surroundings of Shoubak are fascinating. Early afternoon you’ll arrive at Wadi Musa. Have a light lunch, this afternoon you’ll be preparing a Jordanian feast under the friendly guidance of a couple of local cooks. If you'd like to add this cookery class into your Wadi Dana Trail, then just let us know on your quote request form. |
