Day 1: Departure from Aswan - Nile felucca tripThis morning, you'll be collected from your hotel in Aswan. Your driver will take you to the pier where a traditional sailboat will be awaiting your arrival. We suggest bringing along a daypack with a warm sweater, bottle of water and toiletries for one night. There's a sleeping bag for you onboard, but it's a good idea to bring along your own sleeping bag liner. The rest of your belongings will be transported by your driver and returned to you on shore the following day.As soon as the sailboat leaves the pier, you'll glide across the Nile through the Egyptian countryside, leaving the busy city of Aswan behind you. As you sit back on deck you'll have the best possible vantage point to watch life on and around the river. Not only will you enjoy the view, you'll also benefit from the peace and quiet of travelling without rumbling ship engines. Your felucca will sail across the Nile in silence, allowing you to enjoy the sounds of water and wind. Just before sunset the ship will dock at a small Nile island. As the sun slowly sinks further into the horizon, your skipper will prepare dinner by a campfire. Dining beneath a spectacular starry sky is one of the most idyllic moments of this Nile felucca tour. A little later on in the evening you'll doze away on the deck of the felucca sailboat as you look up at the brilliant stars above. |

Feluccas aren't very large, but they're perfect for a couple of days. During this trip, you'll have an entire boat and skipper for yourself and your travel companions. Although you'll be the only people on the boat, sailing on a felucca down the Nile isn't exactly a private voyage. You'll see many other boats on the water - it's particularly fun and busy on the Nile during November and December. During this Nile felucca tour, you can sit back or lay back on deck. There are mattresses onboard and in the evening you'll have your own sleeping bag beneath the stars. There isn't a toilet onboard, however any time you need to use the toilet you can do so on shore. This trip is absolutely back to basics, an unforgettable and great way to cruise the Nile for two days. |
Day 2: End of Nile felucca tour - Arrival in Luxor, via Kom OmboAfter sunrise you'll sail along the Nile in the morning light for another hour or so before docking near Kom Ombo. Your skipper will prepare one last delicious breakfast for you before you leave the ship. Our local representative will be waiting for you on the pier with a bus and your belongings. After driving for about 15 minutes, you'll reach the temples of Haroeris and Sobek at Kom Ombo. This is the cultural highlight of your Nile felucca tour. The temple ruins stand proudly along the Nile where the white sails create a stark contrast with the clear blue sky. This is Egypt exactly as you imagine it would be...After visiting the temple you'll travel on to Luxor by minibus. It'll take about 3 hours to reach your hotel in this historic city. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. Our Valley of the Kings tour includes 4 days in this elegant city with visits to local ancient Egyptian treasures. End your Egypt adventure in a laidback, relaxing way with our Red Sea diving trip. Can't get enough of the Nile? Extend your Nile felucca tour by a day and spend one more night aboard the felucca before leaving the ship at Edfu on Day 3. In Edfu, you'll visit the temples then you'll be driven to Luxor, a 2 hour drive. If you would like even more time sailing the Nile, perhaps you would prefer our 6 day Nile sailing tour. This trip combines colonial-style sailing trip on the Nile on a traditional Dahabiya river sailboat with visits to historical sights along the shores of the Nile. |
