How's the weather in Egypt?Climate in Egypt |
|
Egypt has a typical desert climate with warm summers and mild winters. Daytime temperatures rise quickly and evening temperatures drop suddenly. There's also quite a difference between summer and winter temperatures. Egypt basically only has two seasons, summer and winter, which each last half a year. Egypt is quite a large country, northern Egypt has a completely different climate than southern Egypt. Temperatures in the Mediterranean coastal region are generally lower; the maximum temperature in this region during the summer is approximately 32°C. This area also has the most rain in all of Egypt. Cairo only has 6 days of rain a year, while Alexandria has an average of 30 days of rain a year. It rarely rains at all in southern Egypt. |

Our recommendation: during the summer Egyptian attractions attract hoards of tourists and temperatures are staggering. If you're travelling to Egypt during the summer, we recommend visiting attractions during the morning or at the end of the afternoon. During the spring, the hot Sahara desert wind 'khamsin' can cause havoc for people wearing contact lenses. A proper pair of sunglasses and sunscreen with a high SPH factor are a necessity when travelling through Egypt to protect you from the bright sunlight. We also recommend wearing cool clothing. If you plan on travelling during the winter, bring along warm clothes; a jumper, coat, scarf etc.for the evenings. |
